The Bandys Trojans volleyball team survived. Down two games to none and 11-5 in game four against Forbush, the Trojans fought back to force a game five, then overcame an early 6-1 deficit in the final game to defeat the Falcons 3-2 (18-25, 22-25, 25-18, 25-23, 15-10) to advance to the third round of the state 2A state volleyball playoffs.

Bandys will host North Surry (29-0), a 3-0 winner over North Henderson, on Thursday.

Coming of an easy first round sweep of South Stokes, Bandys appeared to be in a slow gear at the start against Forbush. The Falcons won the first two games as setter Amber Brandon (28 assists, 5 kills) controlled the court setting up middle blockers Lindsay York and Meghan Luffman for kills. York (18 kills 24 blocks) and Luffman (19 kills 4 blocks) also controlled the net defensively.

Prior to game three, Bandys brought in Brittany Moretz as the libero. Moretz neutralized York and Luffman's attacks defensively allowing the Trojans to strike back offensively. Trojans setters Katie Carpenter (20 assists) and Kylie Norman (18 assists) took control setting up their outside hitters with precision for kills.

After a timeout down 6-2 in game four, Bandys' coach Jessica Harvey gave her players a very blunt assessment "If you want it, you've got to go now, It's win or go home." Carpenter finished game four with eight assists as the Trojans came back from 23-22 to win 25-23.

In game five, Bandys used four hitting errors by Forbush to even the score at 6-all. After being tied 8-8, the Trojans ran off seven of the game's final nine points for the win.

"I said to them, 'if we go to five,' I know we'll win," said Harvey after the match. "It came down to conditioning. We didn't stop and they (Forbush) looked tired. Their setter didn't want to move. We may not have the best volleyball players, but we had the better athletes."

Unofficially, Jesse Story led the Trojans offense with 13 kills. Kaitlin Brown and Lindsey Broughton each had 11 kills with Broughton contributing 6 blocks. Kylie Punch had 10 kills and 18 blocks.
