Thanks very much to the Hickory Daily Record and Ragan Robinson for your advance coverage of the Hickory Community Theatre's 60th Anniversary event that was published on October 23.
This helped make even more people aware of it, so that we had a full house of old and new friends who got to share stories and memories.
I would also like to thank all of our volunteers who made it possible — the anniversary committee, the ushers, concessionaires, box office and backstage crew — as well as the 79 people who performed on Saturday evening.
We also appreciate the sponsors who made it possible to create something worthy of such a milestone.
Saturday, was a great night for the theatre, for our community and for the hundreds of people who have taken part in the history of this Hickory institution.

Pursue real criminals, not honest people
Thank you very much officer. As I was getting into my car, I was thinking about the unemployment rate in this county and how difficult it will be to find a job with so many other people competing for the same position. With all this stress, somehow I started my car and proceeded down the road thinking about how I will tell my kids that I don't have enough money to buy them Christmas presents this year.
Suddenly, I noticed a fine officer hiding behind a sign. A moment later, I noticed that I had no seatbelt on. For some odd reason I had forgotten to put in on while stressing on the fact of no job and no money.
To no surprise, I suddenly see blue lights flashing behind me. We all know what happens next. So I would like to thank you very much officer for giving me the perfect reason.
Now I can tell my kids the outstanding officers around here have caught all the bad guys like the one who stole their bicycles this summer and the ones who sold drugs to their friends in school and — I'm guessing — the ones who rob, rape and kill.
So they had nothing else to do but hide behind a sign and give me a seatbelt ticket to take the very last penny I had saved to try and buy a small Christmas gift.
It's so much easier to blame you, Mr. Officer, than try to explain our economy to a 5-ear old.
Please pursue real criminals, not hard-working honest people trying not to sink in a boat full of holes.

Burr did the right thing in Bethlehem
Like many people who prefer to manage their own money, I did not wish to pay into Social Security and Medicare for years, but I had no compunction later about receiving payouts from those funds upon retirement since it was a return of my money.
Similarly, Sen. Richard Burr objected to a stimulus fund which — on the whole — is wasteful, will not have a beneficial long term economic effect and will increase the national debt.
However, since the government was determined to effect a redistribution of our money, Burr must have seen it would be practical to return some of their tax money to Bethlehem for the fire department.
When he was invited to speak at the ceremony, he did the appropriate thing by accepting the invitation.
