Investigators with the Hickory Police Department are searching for the man who robbed the Carolina Postal Credit Union at 1022 11th Ave. Blvd., SE, Wednesday afternoon.
The bank was able to provide the police with a security camera photo of the bank robber Thursday morning.
Hickory Police Capt. Thurman Whisnant said it's not unusual for it to take a day for banks to provide photos because the images are often stored off site so thieves cannot take or destroy the equipment.
The suspect is described as a white male in his early 30s with short dark hair and a medium build. He has a small tattoo on his left wrist and wore a light blue jacket over a white T-shirt, according to witnesses.
After insinuating he had a gun by keeping his hand in his pocket and pointing it at the teller, the thief got away on foot with an undisclosed amount of money, Whisnant said.
A Hickory police K-9 team tracked him through the rear parking lot of the Hickory Daily Record, where the suspect was spotted sprinting toward Interstate 40.
Anyone with information about the bank robbery is asked to call the Hickory Police Department at 328-5551.
