Tabernacle Christian School got a facelift this summer after 40 years of the same look.
"We have had to do some structural things before, but it's been a long time since we've done a renovation like this," said Scott Hooks, president of Tabernacle Christian School and pastor at Tabernacle Baptist Church. "It's a total facelift. The school looks very modern and clean."
The school, which has about 150 students in k3 through 12th grade, was completely revamped. All the flooring has been updated in the classrooms, hallways, bathrooms, locker rooms, gym and cafeteria, and there is new cabinetry and countertops in most of the rooms. The classrooms have new desks, tables and chairs, as well as new whiteboards and flat screen TVs. The school has new technology in the classrooms, as well.
"We have SMART Boards, new computers, and the media room will have computer stations for the kids to do advanced coursework online," Hooks said.
The music and art area also received updates.
The school got updated looks on the walls, as well. Hand-painted murals, new scripture displays, the school crest and a hand-painted Conqueror, the school mascot, now adorn the walls.
"This gives us the opportunity to train and give a quality Christian education," Hooks said. "We're most excited about influencing the lives inside the building."
All the renovations were done while the students were out of school for the summer, from the middle of June until the end of August, Hooks said. The work was done through contractors and community volunteers.
"We're excited about what the Lord has done to provide for us in getting this done," Hooks said. "We have a fresh start and a new beginning to our school, with new educational opportunities."
