Investigators seized 12 pounds of marijuana, five ounces of cocaine and more than $7,000 in cash from a home and car in Long View.
Long View police, Hickory police, Newton police, Catawba County Sheriff's Office, Burke County Sheriff's Office and the N.C. Department of Revenue searched a home on 23rd Street Place, NW, on Thursday after getting tips on a house and watching it for about three weeks, according to the Long View Police Department.
The house is a rental house, and the person who lives there has been convicted of possession of methamphetamine in Florida, according to Long View police.
While officers searched the home, the man's brother, who actually rents the house, drove by and, seeing police, continued driving and trying to avoid officers.
Ten pounds of marijuana were found about a quarter mile from the house and three feet from the roadway, which officers think he threw out of his pickup truck while fleeing from law enforcement, according to investigators.
When officers caught up to the pickup truck and the Burke County Sheriff's Office's K-9 unit searched the car, the dog also alerted officers to the scent of marijuana on the passenger side of the car, which is the side the marijuana would have been thrown from, Long View police said. The inside of the vehicle also smelled heavily of dry marijuana.
Investigators searched the pickup truck and found $6,005 in cash and an additional $786 on the driver.
Inside the house, investigators found five ounces of cocaine and two pounds of marijuana, about $1,000 in cash and several sets of digital scales.
The total value of the drugs at the house and from the side of the road is $62,319.
Investigators have not made any arrests and the investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to call the Long View Police Department at 327-2343.
