It took a crane to get the locomotive upright and back on the tracks after it derailed at about 9 a.m. Friday.

The local train came off the tracks while it was pulling out of the yard with four cars for a local delivery, said Robin Chapman of Norfolk Southern.

The tracks were icy when the train derailed, but the accident's cause remains unknown.

"The cause is under investigation," Chapman said.

The accident happened at low speed, the engine was not damaged and there were no injuries, Chapman said.

By 3 p.m., a crane dispatched from Carthage had arrived and was working to lift the locomotive and put it back on the tracks.
