El Milagro brand tortilla chips and soft taco wraps were scattered across the highway beside an overturned tractor-trailer on Startown Road near Rocky Ford Road Monday.
Emergency crews worked alongside El Milagro employees to clear the road and salvage what food they could following the crash.
"He was fully loaded with tortilla chips and taco wraps,'' said Trooper T.E. Robinson of the Highway Patrol. "They were everywhere.''
Rigoberto Zavala, 53, of Atlanta was at the wheel when the truck crashed at about 7:30 a.m. He ran off the right side of the road, overcorrected and the truck fell onto its side, Robinson said.
"It slid on its side probably about 100 feet,'' he said.
Robinson estimated the damage to the truck at about $5,000 but said he did not know how much food the company had been able to salvage or what their losses were.
After the crash, Zavala refused to be taken to the hospital to treat a superficial scratch on his elbow.
"He was lucky,'' Robinson said. "He didn't get hurt bad at all.''
