An accident in Caldwell County's Kings Creek community north of Lenoir hospitalized two people Friday.

April Childers, 34, of Hickory was driving on N.C. 18 in a 1985 Toyota pickup at about 9:15 a.m. when she hit Roger Huff-man, 61, of Granite Falls while he was sitting in his Chevrolet Geo.

Huffman had been stopped on King Street Heights Drive when Childers veered off the right side of the road and hit him, said Investigating Trooper B.N. Hyatt.

Both vehicles ended up in the roadside ditch. EMS crews and firefighters had to cut away a fence to remove Childers from her car.

Childers was airlifted to Carolina's Medical Center in Charlotte with serious but non-life-threatening injuries, officials said.

Huffman was taken to Caldwell Memorial Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Childers will be charged with failing to maintain road control and for driving while license revoked, Hyatt said.

Her license had been revoked after a DWI conviction.

The investigation is ongoing and the cause of the crash unknown. The roads were clear and dry when Childers crashed and there were no signs that she hit her brakes before impact, Hyatt said.

"Other charges could be pending," he said.
