Mullinax seeks another term as judge

NEWTON

District Court Judge Robert A. Mullinax Jr. filed for re-election Thursday.

"It has been an honor and a privilege to serve the people of Burke, Caldwell, and Catawba counties," he said. "I look forward to continuing to help provide a district court worthy of the deserving citizens here in the 25th District."

Mullinax has presided over criminal, civil and child support courts in each county in the district.

His duties include conducting involuntary commitment hearings. He handles criminal and civil trials in domestic violence cases.

Mullinax is also a volunteer judge for the Judges in Schools Program, a truancy prevention program.

He was appointed to fill the unexpired term of the late Judge John R. Mull of Burke County.

Judge Mullinax is a native of Newton. He graduated from Newton-Conover High School, Wake Forest University, and Wake Forest University School of Law.

He is a life-long member of Beth Eden Lutheran Church where he is currently a member of the church council. He is a member of the boards of directors of both the Grace Hoyle Scholarship Fund and the Ken and Betty Isaac Scholarship Fund.

Mullinax lives in Newton.

Hutchings to file for sheriff in Caldwell

LENOIR

Roger Hutchings, former Caldwell County sheriff, announced he will file today for sheriff.

Hutchings, a Democrat, will challenge incumbent Republican Sheriff Alan Jones.
