It's the time of year when many New Year's resolutions are starting to slip away and people are searching for a foolproof secret to the perfect summer body.
Most people will be searching the internet for the newest diet, supplementation and cosmetic gimmicks. Instead, why not do some simple things to boost your metabolism safely and naturally?
1. Make a Move. Most individuals hear society preach exercise, but do not fully understand how or why. Research shows exercise can increase your resting metabolic rate for up to 24 hours. With warmer temperatures rapidly approaching head outside for a nice walk, bicycle, or hike. Also add weight training to your workout routine. The more lean muscle in the body, the more calories burned throughout the day.
2. Eat More - Or I could say run outside and look at my UFO. Both statements usually summon the same look from individuals. The facts are there. Research shows eating 4-6 smaller meals per day will keep your metabolism kicked in high gear all day. Unfortunately, society is fixated on this ideology of three meals per day; this actually will slow down your metabolism due to the time between meals.
3. Wake, Eat, Shower/ Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. We have heard this throughout our lives. While sleeping our metabolism slows down drastically therefore we rely on the first meal of the day to get the metabolism kick started. Our vehicles run better with fuel, and our bodies are no different. Fuel your body to run better, keep it fueled 4-6 times throughout the day and reap the benefits.
4. Go to Bed. Lack of sleep can decrease the number of calories your body burns. The necessary functions of life rely on calories to fuel their operations, without significant sleep your body will not utilize calories properly for essential life functions.
5. Eat Fat This does not mean drop everything and run to the donut stand. Research shows EPH, DPA, omega-3, and omega-6 fatty acids boost metabolism. These are most often found in fish oils and nuts. Good fatty acids help to increase fat-burning while decreasing fat storage. They also serve to lower bad cholesterol, raise good cholesterol and enhance nerve function.
