Trial date set for former teacher accused of stalking

Issue: John Michael Donadio, 59, a former occupational teacher at Fred T. Foard High School, is charged with on misdemeanor count of stalking.

Background: The charge was filed in May 2009 by a male student of his when he worked at Foard High School. In the criminal complaint, the student said Donadio followed him, texted him and gave him inappropriate gifts, such as underwear. The student also said Donadio kept the student's fingernail clippings in his wallet, behind a photo of the student.

Donadio was placed on administrative leave after his arrest, and was terminated during the September school board meeting in a unanimous vote by the school board.

The board also requested information from the school's investigation into Donadio be forwarded to the N.C. Board of Education, to determine if there is cause to have his teaching certificate suspended and revoked, and his license be suspended.

What's new: Donadio appeared in court on Monday. However, due to a full court calendar, his case was moved to another date.

What's next: Donadio's case is now scheduled for trial on June 28.
