HICKORY

Four major interchanges in the Hickory area will get new lighting.

The N.C. Department of Transportation announced the $1.5 million project has been given to Traffic Control Devices Inc. of Altamonte Springs, Fla.

New poles and lights will be installed at Interstate 40 interchanges at Exit 123 near Mountain View, Exit 125 that connects with Lenoir-Rhyne Boulevard, and the I-40 connections with Fairgrove Church Road and N.C. 16.

Work is scheduled to begin later this month and be completed by Jan. 31, 2011.

The contract for the rest area renovation on I-40 in Conover was awarded to Dave's Construction Service of Eden.

The $2.8 million project includes new rest area buildings, renovation of current facilities and parking changes.

A family restroom that complies with standards issued by the Americans with Disabilities Act will also be built.

That project will also begin this month. Completion is scheduled for April 1, 2011.
