The Catawba County Board of Commissioners is still fully Republican.
Kitty Barnes, Lynn Lail and Randy Isenhower handily defeated Democratic challengers Crystal Smith and Carolyn Jones Connor on Tuesday.
Isenhower, as he did in the GOP primary, led the ticket.
He took 28 percent of the vote, with Barnes and Lail getting slightly more than 25 percent each.
“I appreciate the commissioners’ support,” Isenhower said Tuesday night.
He was appointed to fill the unexpired commission term of Glenn Barger.
Isenhower eliminated Barger in the primary. Barger later resigned from the board to become interim superintendent of the Catawba County public schools until a permanent superintendent is hired.
“I look forward to working with the board,” Isenhower said. “The people are looking to us for answers and we’re going to deliver.”
Lail and Lail were elated with their success and the success of the Republican Party on Tuesday.
“It’s a great feeling,” Lail said. “I’m not surprised that the party fared so well.”
The three Republicans will begin their new terms in December.
Republicans Dan Hunsucker and Barbara Beatty are up for re-election in 2012.
