Suspected prescription fraud leads to arrest

»  Comments | Post a Comment

The Caldwell County Sheriff’s Office ICE Unit arrested Barbara Hartsell Tuesday for falsifying a prescription for Oxycodone.

Hartsell is accused of presenting a prescription for 90 pills of Oxycodone to a pharmacy in Lenoir in October, which filled it, according to the sheriff’s office.

A few weeks later, the pharmacist became suspicious and contacted Westpointe Medical Practice, which supposedly issued the prescription by a doctor who worked there. The pharmacist learned the prescription was false and contacted law enforcement.

ICE agents learned Hartsell was connected with a former Westpointe Medical employee, who was recently charged with fraudulent prescription violations, according to the sheriff’s office. Hartsell also worked at the facility when she filled the prescription.

Hartsell, 47, of Granite Falls, was charged with one count of obtaining a controlled substance by fraud and one count of possession with intent to sell or deliver Oxycodone. She is scheduled to appear in court on Dec. 15.
