U.S. Rep. Patrick McHenry officially filed for re-election Monday to represent the newly redrawn 10th Congressional District.
McHenry highlighted his continued emphasis on fostering a better business climate for job creation, getting government spending under control, and fighting against tax increases in his re-election announcement.
“I am honored to ask the people of Western North Carolina for not only their vote, but also their trust, as I seek the opportunity to represent their values in the United States Congress,” McHenry said. “The most important part of my job is listening to feedback from the folks I represent, and that's why I hold town hall meetings across the district.”
McHenry cited the recent success of his crowdfunding bill to facilitate new business and create jobs that was backed by President Obama and congressional Democrats.
“My number one priority is to get the government out of the way so that small businesses, the engine of our economy, can create jobs,” he said. “That’s why I introduced, and the House overwhelmingly passed, legislation to help entrepreneurs raise money and create jobs.”
McHenry, who voted to repeal ObamaCare last year, continues to rank as one of the most conservative members of Congress. He was recently given a perfect 100 percent legislative score on economic issues by Americans for Prosperity.
After being redrawn by the General Assembly, the 10th Congressional district now includes all of Gaston, Rutherford, Polk, Cleveland, and Lincoln counties, as well as part of Buncombe and most of Catawba.
His House committee assignments include Financial Services and Oversight and Government Reform of which he is chairman. The deputy Republican whip lives in Cherryville.
