Mostly incumbents have filed this week for election to local offices.
Barbara Beatty and Dan Hunsucker, both incumbents and Republicans, have filed to retain their seats on the Catawba County Board of Commissioners, along with newcomer Kevin Spiva, also a Republican.
Donna Hicks Spencer, Republican incumbent, has filed for Catawba County Register of Deeds.
In state district races, incumbent Austin Allran, Republican, has filed to run for the 42nd District of the NC Senate. In the NC House of Representatives, incumbent Mitchell Setzer, Republican, has filed for the 89th District seat, while Andy Wells, Republican, has filed for the 96th District seat. Mark Hilton, who currently represents the 96th District, said in December that he would not seek another term.
Election filing ends at noon on Feb. 29. Primary election day is May 8. This year’s General Election is set for Nov. 6.
Local races up for grabs in Catawba County this year are:
- County Commissioners – two seats with a filing fee of $90.
- Register of Deeds – one seat with a filing fee of $560.
- State House of Representatives – one seat in the 89th District and one seat in the 96th District (two year terms) with a filing fee of $207.
- State Senator – one seat in the 42nd District (two-year term) with a filing fee of $207.
Local races up for grabs in Caldwell County are:
- Register of Deeds – one seat with a filing fee of $426.65
- Caldwell County Board of Commissioners - Three seats with a filing fee of $57
- State Senator – one seat for the 45th District with a filing fee of $207 (changed from the previous 44th district)
- State House of Representatives – one seat for the 87th District with a filing fee of $207 (district includes all of Caldwell County)
Candidates for state offices have to file in Raleigh. State offices up for election are:
- Lieutenant Governor – filing fee is $1,232
- Attorney General – filing fee is $1,232
- Secretary of State - filing fee is $1,232
- State Treasurer - filing fee is $1,232
- State Auditor - filing fee is $1,232
- Superintendent of Public Instruction - filing fee is $1,232
- Agriculture Commissioner - filing fee is $1,232
- Insurance Commissioner - filing fee is $1,232
- Labor Commissioner - filing fee is $1,232
- Associate Justice, NC Supreme Court - filing fee is $1,372
- Court of Appeals Judge - filing fee is $1,315
- Judge, Superior Court - filing fee is $1,244
- Judge, District Court - filing fee is $1,094
