Missing Long View man found

A Long View man missing since Sunday was found unharmed at about 3:30 p.m. Saturday. Storme Goforth, 22, turned up after a group of some 60 to 80 friends and family spent most of the day searching for him along major roads and in wooded areas near his home.

“He is safe and in his mother’s arms,” said family friend Shelina Porter. “We are doing our happy dance.”

He surfaced at his mother’s place of work – a car dealership, said Lt. R.A. Coffey of the Long View Police Department. Details of the circumstances of his disappearance were not immediately available.

Storme Goforth, 22, lives with his mother, Candy Propst. She had last seen him Sun., Feb. 12 when he left home and never returned. She reported him missing and told Long View officers that this behavior is out of character for her son.

Goforth is saving money for a car, but relies on public transportation and rides from his mother and friends. For the past several months, Goforth has been employed with Hickory Printing where he works the third shift.

After searching for her son for six days, Propst feared the worst.

Porter said Goforth is active in Winkler’s Grove Baptist Church and Hickory First Assembly of God. Goforth was happy and pleased with his life, she said, adding that she has no idea why he had vanished.

“He’s a great kid, I could only hope that my children could be like him,” Porter said.

Goforth was active in high school drama classes. Molly Rice was his theater teacher at Saint Stephens High School and helped organize the social media websites that helped build support for the searches and constantly updated Goforth’s friends and family about any updates.

“He is the sweetest young man and he has the biggest heart,” Rice said. “His motto was, ‘I will make you smile.’”

Officers did not suspect foul play, but remained open to all possibilities during their investigation.

“It’s been an absolute blessing that so many people have taken the time to help look for my son,” Propst said. “The Long View police have been great – I really appreciate all they’ve done.”
