It took the Caldwell County Sheriff’s Office more than a month to issue a news release announcing that they were investigating a rape case. The release included a sketch of the suspect and the victim’s account of the crime.
Investigators are asking for the public’s help in solving the crime.
The attack occurred on Dec. 6 in the Baton area of Caldwell County. The victim heard a noise outside her home around 11 p.m. and saw an unknown suspect breaking into her vehicle. She yelled at him and closed the door.
Before she could call 911, the suspect forced his way into her house. The man was armed with a knife and demanded money. She cooperated and gave him a small amount of cash.
It wasn’t enough. The suspect then came at the victim with a knife and raped her.
The suspect is a light skinned black male in his early 30s. He is approximately 5-feet 11-inches tall with a regular build, brown eyes and very short brown hair – it was shaved to his head. On the night of the attack, he was wearing dark colored jogging pants, a dark blue Carolina Panthers hooded sweatshirt and tan boots. He had a small amount of hair in the middle of his chin and a scar visible underneath the hair. He also has a deep voice.
Anyone with information on the attack and the identity of the rapist is asked to Detective Andrea Longo at 758-2324 or Crime Stoppers at 7578-8300.
