Fred T. Foard placed nine wrestlers in the top four and had five individual winners rolling to an easy win in the Tigerland Classic wrestling tournament at Jerry Copas Gymnasium on Saturday at Fred T. Foard High.
“Overall I was pleased with our effort today,” said Fred T. Foard head coach Mike Carey. “We had a lot of guys battling and pumped up. We are not where we want to be but we are getting closer.”
Fred T. Foard finished with 206 points followed by Independence with 119, Hopewell (106.5), Hibriten (94) and Alexander Central rounded out the top five with 88.5 points.
The results are unofficial due to a computer glitch and the official results will be released by school officials today.
Placing in the top four for the Tigers was Dylan Cassidy (103-weight class) in fourth, Michael Vincent (112) in second, Caleb Griffin (119) in first, Caleb McRorie (135) in second, Jacob Harper (145) first, Hayden Albert (160) first, Dillon Johnson (171) first, Josh Ohmer (189) in fourth and Cole Schanilec (285) placed first.
Hibriten and Alexander Central, which finished fourth and fifth respectively, combined to place seven in the top four.
Hibriten had four in the top four while the Cougars had three.
Hibriten’s Corey Correll placed fourth in the 112-class while Scott Hardiman took top honors in the 140, Joseph Serrano finished second in the 145 and Tripp Patterson placed second in 215.
Alexander Central was led by Logan Adams with top honors in the 152 class while Jonathan Zuniga placed third at 125 and William Wine was second in the 130 class.
Maiden’s Richard Kereles placed third in the 145 class followed by Evan Spears with a third-place finish at 160 and C.J. Webb fourth at 285.
Other Greater Hickory area winners included Freedom’s Josh Moses at 125, Cody Townsend (East Burke) at 130 and Mason Webb (Freedom) at 189.
There were two most outstanding wrestlers named.
Hardiman (Hibriten) was named the Most Outstanding Wrestler (MOW) for the lower weight classes (103-140) and Webb (Freedom) was named for the upper weight classes (145-285).
