Alexander Central High clinched at least a Northwestern 3A-4A girls’ softball co-championship on Friday with a 4-1 victory over Watauga in Boone.
Chelsea Wilkinson struck out 15 and walked one in a complete game win and Tyler Wike and Kaylea Payne each had three hits and drove in two runs for Alexander Central.
Elizabeth Dollar had two hits for Watauga, 4-5 in the league.
At 9-0 in the league, the Cougars are three games up on St. Stephens and Fred T. Foard (6-3 each) with three league games to go.
The Cougars have beaten St. Stephens twice and Foard once and play the Tigers again on May 3 in Taylorsville.

South Caldwell 18, Fred T. Foard 2
Tyler Moody hit a grand slam in the sixth inning, highlighting South Caldwell’s home victory over the Tigers that wrapped up at least a co-championship in the Northwestern 3A-4A.
Kevin Jones and Dylan Poarch also homered for the Spartans (14-2, 8-2), who are two up on Alexander Central and Watauga, both 6-4 in the league, with two conference games to go.
The Spartans are at home Tuesday against South Caldwell and close the regular season Thursday at Hickory.
Jacob Hatton was the winning pitcher on Friday, going five innings and giving four hits and an earned run.
Mitchell Henderson went four innings for Foard (6-10, 4-7) and took the loss.
Matt Ward’s two hits led the Tigers.
