Bunker Hill High will have a three-team football scrimmage that starts in the first two minutes of Wednesday.
At 12:01 a.m., the Bears will entertain West Iredell and Patton in their first scrimmage as they prepare for their second season under head coach Travis Conner.
Bunker Hill will also have a second scrimmage at home on Saturday against South Caldwell at 10 a.m.
Admission to each scrimmage is $3.
Also scrimmaging on Wednesday are Alexander Central, St. Stephens and Draughn.
Alexander Central scrimmages West Forsyth at West Rowan at 6 p.m., Chase visits St. Stephens at 5 p.m. and Draughn is at McDowell at 9 a.m.
LRU schedules day for media on Sunday
Lenoir-Rhyne University has scheduled its annual Media Day for football on Sunday at 2 p.m. at Moretz Stadium.
Mike Houston is the new head coach for the Bears, who play Concord (W. Va.) on Sept. 3 on the road to open the season.
LRU’s first home game is Sept. 17 against Carson-Newman at 7 p.m.

Younce shoots a 77 in Senior Amateur
Lennie Younce of Lenoir had the top finish among area golfers at the U.S. Senior Amateur Championship qualifying tournament on Monday at Carolina Country Club in Raleigh.
Younce finished at 6-over 77 to tie for 56th, while Dan Anderson of Lenoir shot an 80 and Larry Culler of Conover finished at 82.
Tony Green of Kingsport, Tenn., led six golfers who qualified to advance. He finished with an 8-under 63.
BASEBALL
Smoky Mountain nips Stars in extra innings
The Smoky Mountain Big Train eliminated the Catawba Valley Stars from the Carolina-Virginia Collegiate tournament in Mocksville on Sunday, winning 6-3 in extra innings.
Ricardo Velez and Cameron Day each had two hits and Jordan Lafone allowed four hits but got no decision in the loss.
Todd Eskilin and Velez were all-tournament picks for the Stars.
Davis Henderson won pitcher of the year in the league and third baseman Cody Pate, second in the league in hitting, was the defensive player of the year.
Catawba Valley beat West Virginia 7-4 earlier Sunday, getting a complete game from Aaron Bentley.
The Stars beat Roanoke 10-8 when Pate went 3-for-4.
The Carolina Hurricanes handed the top-seeded Stars their first tournament loss 4-1.
Crawdads offer tickets for games in the playoffs
Tickets for the Hickory Crawdads’ playoff games in September are on sale at L.P. Frans Stadium.
After winning the Northern Division’s first-half title, Hickory will be at home for two games in the South Atlantic League division best-of-3 series, on Sept. 9-10 for 7 p.m. games.
Tickets are also on sale for the SAL Championship series, in which the Crawdads would have home games on Sept. 12-13 as part of a five-game series for the league title if they win the Northern Division playoff series.
Ticket prices for single games are $9 for box seats, $8 for reserved, $7 for grandstand and those prices are each reduced by one dollar if the tickets are purchased before the day of the game.
The Crawdads are offering a playoff pass good for four potential games at Frans for $24 (box), $20 (reserved) or $16 (grandstand). Also, 20 box seats are available in corporate packages for $99. Unused playoff pass and corporate packages will be good for any Crawdads game in April 2012.

East Burke has tickets on sale for athletic year
East Burke High has tickets on sale for attending school athletic events in the 2011-2012 school year.
Reserved seating for football is $40 per person and a reserved parking pass is $10.
An all-sports individual pass is $100, plus $35 for each additional person, with additional fees of $10 for reserved seating and $10 for reserved parking.
An all-sports family pack is $200 for two parents and two children and is non-transferable. Each additional person added will be $25 with additional fees of $10 for reserved seating and $10 for reserved parking.
A rate reduction schedule is available for all-sports family packs. If purchased in December, the fee is $150 and if purchased in February it will be $80.
Membership in the East Burke Booster Club is $5.
