Former Maiden High football star Ryan Crawford was among five on Wednesday named to join the Davidson College Hall of Fame on Feb. 4.
Crawford, a 2001 graduate of Davidson, is one of only three first-team Associated Press All-Americans in football at Davidson (1999). He led the Wildcats to a 29-13 record over four seasons that included the school’s only unbeaten football team (10-0) in 2000.
In the 2000 season, Crawford was selected as Football Gazette’s NCAA Division-AA mid-major defensive back of the year and also the publication’s defensive player of the year among players for independents.
Crawford’s six blocked kicks (four punts, two field goals in 2000) was at the time an NCAA record. He led the nation in interceptions with eight in 1999
and is tied for the school record in career interceptions with 17. He continues to hold school records for career blocked kicks (11) and pass breakups (31).
The induction day will begin at halftime of the Chattanooga at Davidson basketball game at Belk Arena. A reception is scheduled at 6:30 p.m. and the Hall of Fame dinner and program begins at 7:15 p.m.
Joining Crawford in the school’s 23rd Hall of Fame class are swimmer Mary Shell Brosche, the late Jeff Frank (tennis head coach), Philip Koonce (track and field) and Alan Lewis (baseball).
