Six players scored in double figures as Lenoir-Rhyne University defeated St. Andrews 88-33 in women’s basketball at St. Andrews on Thursday.
LRU (9-2) has won two straight and six of its last seven outings.
The 55-point win over St. Andrews was the largest margin of victory for the Bears since a 96-22 win over Davidson during the 1983-84 season, and the second most points scored by the Bears this season.
Whitley Culler led the way for LRU with 16 points and 11 rebounds while Cameron Sealey added 14 points. Whitney Brinkley finished with 13 points followed by Danielle Bongiorno (12), Jazmine Charles (11) and Alexis Katt finished with 10.
The Bears shot 58 percent from the floor while holding St. Andrews (0-7) to 21.4 percent.
LRU jumped to a 46-14 lead at halftime and finished with a 42-19 advantage in the second half.
The Bears face Anderson in a South Atlantic Conference game at Shuford Gymnasium at 6 p.m. on Jan. 4.

Three locals in Shrine Bowl
The Greater Hickory area is represented with three players in the 75th Shrine Bowl on Saturday in Spartanburg, S.C.
The Shrine Bowl is the nation’s oldest high school all-star game.
Freedom quarterback Michael Helms and teammate Marcus Kincaid, a defensive back, are joined on the N.C. roster by Hibriten defensive back Julius Gaines.
The game is at 1 p.m. Saturday at Wofford College's Gibbs Stadium.
Tickets are $15.

CVCC signs Wright
Catawba Valley Community College women have signed Kara Wright of Cramerton to play volleyball next year.
Wright plays for Cramerton Christian Academy, where she has earned all-conference honors each year since 2008 and was named first-team All-Regionn this year.
