Caldwell Community College and Technical Institute (CCC&TI) announced Monday it has named Terence McCutcheon as its women’s head basketball coach.
McCutcheon is a former men’s basketball assistant coach at Brevard, an NCAA Division II school. His coaching experience also includes stints at Oak Hill (La.) High, as women’s coach at Louisiana State University-Eunice and as a men’s graduate assistant at St. Andrews Presbyterian College.
As a player, McCutcheon started at the College of Southern Idaho (1997-1998) and later transferred to Nichols State University (1998-2000).
After transferring to Pfeiffer, he was a team MVP there and won the MVP award of the Bobby Lutz Thanksgiving Tournament. He earned a bachelor’s degree in sports management at Pfeiffer.
“I want to come in and teach my philosophy on basketball in a way that gives them things they can take with them,” McCutcheon said in a press release. “Dedication, teamwork, time management are basically life lessons.
“I believe in playing the right way. We will play hard and give 100 percent effort. If you give your best, good things will happen.”
McCutcheon replaces Rick Heavner, who resigned on Nov. 4. He had been head coach since 2009.
Without a head coach, CCC&TI canceled its first seven games this season. The school is attempting to reschedule those games.
The schedule on CCC&TI’s website says the women will play Patrick Henry at 5 p.m. on Wednesday at CCC&TI.
