The Carolina Auto Racing Show (CARS) is scheduled Thursday through Saturday at the Hickory Metro Convention Center.
The show features racing technology items and safety gear that can be purchased, plus seminars involving industry greats like Humpy Wheeler.
About 100 vendors are expected, and booths will be open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.

LRU basketball teams home twice this week
The Lenoir-Rhyne University basketball teams play at home on Wednesday night and on Saturday in South Atlantic Conference games.
The Bears meet Wingate on Wednesday night with the women’s game starting at 6 p.m. and the men’s game to follow.
On Saturday, the women play Brevard at 4 p.m. and the men’s game begins at 6 p.m.

Hickory softball team looking for players
The Hickory 55-and-over softball team is seeking players from Catawba, Burke, Caldwell and Alexander counties.
Players can be 54 but must turn 55 by Dec. 31.

BASEBALL
Former Yankees great to speak at App State
Appalachian State University’s keynote speaker for its first Hot Stove First Pitch Banquet will be former New York Yankees great Bobby Richardson.
The event will be Feb. 11 on the club level of the Appalachian Athletics Center.
Richardson was an eight-time all-star and played on three Yankees teams that won World Series titles.
The banquet begins at 5:45 p.m. and will be followed by a dinner and the program at 7 p.m.
The cost is $50 per person and corporate tables are available for $300, which includes dinner for six and access to the VIP lounge with Richardson and the Mountaineers baseball staff.
