Hickory High’s boys won again on Tuesday night, running their basketball win streak to 11 games and setting up a big game on Friday night against archrival St. Stephens.
The Red Tornadoes had balanced scoring – with seven players scoring seven or more points – and routed visiting Hibriten 86-50 in a Northwestern 3A-4A game.
Zach Jarrett had 13 points and Jordan Walls-Davis had 10 to lead Hickory, which beat Hibriten for the 13th time in their last 15 battles.
The victory kept Hickory (14-2, 4-0) in first place in the conference, one game up on St. Stephens (11-5, 3-1) and Alexander Central (10-5, 3-1).
St. Stephens visits Hickory on Friday night in a rematch of a Catawba Valley Classic semifinal that the Red Tornadoes won 83-47 at Hickory on Dec. 28.
Hibriten is 7-5 overall and 1-3 in the league after losing its fourth straight game.
The Red Tornadoes took control early, jumping to a 20-11 lead after one quarter. They then outscored the Panthers 26-12 in the second quarter and led 46-23 at the half.
Mike Burgess had a game-high 22 points for Hibriten, which started the season 4-0, and Jordan Rutherford added 10 points.
