The Catawba College women scored the first 10 points of the game on Wednesday at Catawba and then held off a furious Lenoir-Rhyne University rally to earn a 64-59 South Atlantic Conference win.

Catawba (10-5, 5-2 SAC) increased that lead to 41-23 by halftime.

LRU (12-4, 4-3) rallied late in the second half and trimmed the lead to 59-56 on an old-fashioned three-point play by Whitney Culler.

Catawba pushed the lead back to six at 62-56 on a free throw by Chloe Bully, but LRU got a 3-point shot from Jazmine Charles to cut the lead back to three with 11 seconds remaining.

The Indians’ Nisha Long was fouled and connected on both free throws with six seconds left to play for the final margin.

Bully led Catawba with 18 points, while Culler had 17 points and nine rebounds for the Bears and Charles added 11 points and 11 rebounds.
